About the Item

At once expressive and ephemeral, this beautiful abstract landscape was created en plein air by Viktor Mitic. As part of the artistic process, Mitic exposed this oil painting to the elements—‘battling’ everything from gentle showers to thunderstorms and hail. The effect on the form and colour of the ‘rain paintings’ is dramatic. The palette—a rich range of blues, purples, greens, and golden yellows appears somewhat muted, the form fluid. “The process yields a captivating topography, showcasing the ephemeral beauty born from the dynamic interplay of nature and artistic expression.” Viktor Mitic "There is a strong suggestion of synaesthesia with sound and colour in these paintings as if a visual music present in their composition lifts them to a multisensory expression." Gary Michael Dault, Canadian arts writer Viktor Mitic is a Canadian artist who was born in Serbia. As a young man, he attended various art schools for classical training in Europe. After immigrating to Canada at age 20, he earned a BFA from the University of Toronto in 1995 and took additional studies in art history at Sheridan College. He has exhibited his post-Pop inspired paintings, prints and colourful abstract sculptures at the Muramatsu Gallery in Tokyo, The Armory Show in NYC, Art Chicago and Toronto. His work is held in corporate, private, and public collections.
